Starship is an ergonomic sculpture motivated by nostalgic futurism. Viewers are encouraged to look back to find a childlike perception of the future. This sci-fi inspired piece of custume jewelry playfully emulates the epaulettes found on a captain's shoulder.
The piece features a pin-able, bronze shoulder pad coated in iridescent spray paint reinforced with a textured layer of epoxy. The paint and texture are complemented by the bismuth found in the 3D-printed geometric geodes casted in sterling silver.
All of the forms are removable using a simple twist, adding an element of playfulness to the piece. When separated from the base, these unique epaulettes become cosmic childrens’ blocks. Users may imagine them as planets or starships from another dimension.
One of the silver geometric forms also house a clear opal hand cut to create magnified optical effects; similar to that of a jeweler's loupe.
The Mexican ‘contra luz’ opal is unique in that it only shows its iridescent properties when exposed to sunlight, transforming the loupe into a natural kaleidoscope.
