Most of my work so far has been inspired by the two final frontiers: underwater and outer space, due to a childhood exploring the stars and the oceans with my pops. I have always been a very sentimental person, and since moving out of my childhood home, I have felt a need to express this newfound nostalgia.

Rather than focusing on themes and elements from my childhood, I chose to focus on the source of these feelings that seem only to continue to grow as I do.

The hollow construction ring uses simple geometric forms to create a sundial. When orienting the key toward north, one can actually use protruding dial and notches along the outer disk to tell the hour.

The circles drilled along the edge of the inner band also correspond to the hours on an analog clock. Its home is a nickel silver container with a slot between two panes of acrylic. One of these panes features an aquamarine set in a silver tube surrounded by copper jump-ring holding nickel silver hands in place. With the ring placed inside its housing, one can rotate the hands the correspond to different times around the ring band.

The functionality of the sundial and mobility of the hands provide a more personal and interactive element to the piece. One can sit and watch the hours pass by as the sun crosses the sky while playing with the hands rotating around the clock. I do maintain the elements of the cosmos and ocean through my choice of an aquamarine for the stone and a futuristic Art Deco geometry.
